Originally only two lakes, Chalk Springs Trout Fishery was created in 1984 on the site of old watercress beds.

The many changes to the fishery and fish-farm over the years, including the addition of two more lakes in 1986, have helped to make Chalk Springs Trout Fishery one of the premier small stillwater trout fisheries in England.
