Luton Angling Club catch and fishery report | 30th May 2011

  •

Luton AC offers fantastic fishing for most species with Carp to 37lb+, Tench 8lb+, Bream 10lb+, Chub 7lb+, Zander 16lb+, Pike near 30lb, Perch 3lb+ and Roach and Rudd over 2lb. All of the clubs stillwaters including 12 miles of the Grand Union Canal are open all year round and alot offer secure parking close to the venue. Unlike some clubs Luton AC do not charge a premium for night fishing or fishing between March and June.

Luton Angling Club Catch ReportsMoney from subscriptions is continually being ploughed back into improving the fisheries for the benefit of its members through work parties throughout the year.

Some great catches again this week topped by Mark Farrells capture of a common at a club record weight (subject to a claim being made and scales verified) of 41lb 8oz. This is Marks third capture of the common the last time being in 2009 when it weighed 35lb+.

At North House Lake Terry Mayes had a 27lb leather plus commons of 27lb 4oz, 27lb 3oz, 18lb and 10lb.

At Beckerings Reservoir Steven Robinson landed a specimen tench of 8lb 2oz. Brothers Danny & Michael Smith were at the same venue fishing for just a couple of hours with Danny having a 20lb fully scaled mirror a 23lb common and a 15lb common all caught on Innovate S2t bottom baits tipped with small S2t pop ups. Michael landed a 22lb common on A2D Baits Sweet Plum pop ups fished KD style. Rather alarmingly the 15lb common that Danny caught was trailing all manner of rigs, feeders and leaders which had become entangled around a large cage feeder which had been fixed to the main line and was never going to come off. This is not an isolated incident as a similar rig was found recently at Woodland Lake. There is really no excuse for anglers to be fishing with such rigs which are banned on all club waters. Dannys fish was released unharmed minus the rigs but do not be surprised if the clubs bailiffs start inspecting rigs in future due to the actions of a few irresponsible members. Phil Anderson from Leighton Buzzard also got amongst the Beckerings twenties with a couple of 20lb+ commons. Ben Dixon found succes using S2t with commons of 22lb 9oz, 21lb and 17lb plus a 16lb mirror with Bens father in-law Ian Jefferson landing a 17lb mirror.

Match result:
Eastern Enfield Anglers fished at Grove Church on Sunday 22nd May when conditions were exceptionally windy. On other canal sections I heard that poles were being smashed by the strong wind and it was no surprise to hear that the 14 members that fished didn't fish the pole due to the conditions. The bream responded nicely though with the 14 weighing in 84lb 9oz.

  • 1st A Mills 18lb 3oz
  • 2nd G Careford 14lb 12oz
  • 3rd 13lb 10oz
All fished small feeders or bomb with best baits being double red maggot and pellet.
