April Showers, what showers? With such a dry month although the water is still cool fishing has been excellent with many anglers having a cracking day's fishing.
Coarse fishing catch reports
Ms Ceri Meadows (photographs below) had a stunner on 26th April when towards the end of her session she landed a 2lb Roach and 1/2hour later a beautiful 12lb Mirror from the House Pool. Many good Carp have been coming out from the Main Pool, including a 15lb Common for Nick Stephens of Pembrokeshire.
The best fish during April was a 19lb Mirror with several others between 12lb and 17lb being landed and many anglers reporting being "smashed" and size 10 hooks being straightened! The night fishermen have had some cracking sport. 2 lads from Bristol had 136 Carp during a weeks fishing. Steve Davis of Burryport had a blinder in the House pool landing 2 Tench to 3lb, 12 Roach over 1/2lb, nearly 24 Bream to 3lb, Carp to 8lb and nearly 40lb of "scraps" while fishing the margins and 2rods lengths out on sweetcorn, luncheon meat and maggots.
With the water temperature rising, afternoons and evenings have seen some superb surface fishing for Carp, mainly from the Main Lake, Floating Bread or Dog biscuits (chum mixer, wagg etc) have produced some great sport. Using a Fly rod, line and leader with a dog biscuit fished in a bait band has seen some tremendous sport.
Trout fishing catch reports
Trout fishing has been tremendous with the Rainbows and Blues fighting really hard before being banked. Most fish are coming to Damsels, Gold headed flies, Black or Dark midges fished about 3-4ft deep. Most fish have been around the 2-2.5lb mark with the occasional bigger one. Our 6lb Rainbows have yet to be landed.
Mr D Owen of Welshpool fishing a Black Gnat or Black Daddy had 3 fish for bag weight of 7lb and said that they were some of the hardest fighting Fish he'd had for a long time!
