I have noticed many people taking coarse fish from the water and not returning them.

Is it legal to retain fish?

If not then I suggest the appropriate authority post signs indicating that such action is illegal. In particular the canal at Retford, Notts seems to be devoid of fish. This is said to be due to foreign fisherman who do not know the UK law, taking fish for consumption.
