Castleford angler crowned Angling Trust Veterans National Champion 2011

  •

John Gee from Castleford, West Yorkshire became the Angling Trust Veterans National Champion on Wednesday 3rd August 2011 at Partridge Lakes, Culcheth, Warrington. John found the ide ravenous from peg 24 on Covey 2 and caught ide up to 1lb steadily all day fishing maggot to the far bank at 13m to place 24.500kg on the scales to give him the Championship title.

Angling Trust fishing newsRunner up on the day and not too far behind was England International Manager, Joe Roberts from Northampton fished worm across to the far bank on peg 67 on Covey 3 and also caught ide and a few small carp throughout the day for 22.460kg.  Alec Rawlings drew fancied peg 19 on Willow, the peg which won this year’s Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier, and started well catching the resident chub which went up to 3lb, also taking a few ide on worm and caster at 14m.  But the fishing slowed a bit for Alec in the latter stages of the match and his 21.280kg ended up as a third place finish.

Hot and sunny conditions greeted the 160 competitors to the picturesque and well maintained Partridge Lakes near Warrington for the 2011 Veterans National Championships.  The conditions put pay to the outstanding weights seen at Partridge Lakes recently, though it did make for a tight contest and with carp not really feeding it was ide and chub that made up most of the catches which gave plenty of bites to those who targeted them.

Angling Trust would like to offer their thanks and appreciation to all the staff at Partridge Lakes who went out of their way to ensure everyone had a good day.
