The Drennan Team England has now been selected to represent the nation in the World Championships in Holland on the 5th and 6th September having secured the Gold team medal three times over the last four years and is bidding to continue this success at what is likely to be a difficult venue

There is an immense amount of experience in this team and it is looking to hold off what are likely to be powerful challenges from France and Italy. In addition there are likely to be a strong showing from the local Dutch and Belgian sides.

The team is:

• Will Raison: Current Individual World Champion
• Alan Scotthorne: 5 Times World Champion
• Steve Gardner: England's most capped international
• Sean Ashby: 4 World Championship Gold Medals
• Stuart Conroy: 4 World Championship Gold Medals
• Des Shipp: 3 World Championship Gold Medals

Joint manager Mark Downes says of the team they have selected “These 6 anglers are the most respected in the World, all have shone on their day but more importantly they gel perfectly as a team and are the epitome of professionalism”

Co- manager Mark Addy adds ”It wasn't difficult naming the same team, each year this team gets better as they gain experience, we are surely going into this Championships as favourites and I'm sure given our fair share of breaks we will be the team to beat."

This year’s European Championships are set to be staged along a powerful fast moving River in Slovenia during late June (27th/ 28th June) and the Drennan Team England for this event is: Will Raison, Alan Scotthorne, Sean Ashby, Steve Hemingray, Steve Gardner and Darren Cox.

Downes said "At present we know little about this venue, only that it’s deep in places, powerful and wide. Bream will be the target species and the flat float, bolo and slider will all play vital roles. The more methods there are the better we seem to do."

Dick Clegg, Angling Trust International Events Director adds: “The team selection is not surprising with the World Championship squad being together for so long achieving so much success at the highest level. Since the team got together over 6 years ago there has been a marked improvement in the team’s ability and the spirit within the camp. With such consistency it will be tough to make changes over the next few years, if they continue to perform at the top of international match fishing”.

These teams are experienced and will prove that English match angling is still amongst the best in the World!
