World class teams to attend meeting of international proportions

The Angling Trust is set to deliver the greatest spectacle of international angling ever seen as seven England teams and five World Champions come together at Barston Lakes on Saturday May 16th to help raise funds for the England Veterans and Anglers with Disabilities team.

Angling Trust Fishing NewsThe five 2008 gold Medal individual winners attending are Will Raison (Nations), Emma Pickering (Ladies), Mark Addy (Veterans), Callum Dicks (Under 22’s), and Matt Godfrey (Under 18’s). Plus the world’s most prolific Angling Gold Medallist, Alan Scotthorne will also be there.Members of the press and public will be able to take part in an exclusive photo shoot, taking place from 9am, before having the opportunity to watch the greatest match of all time. The match starts at 11.30m and finishes at 3.30pm.A four hour F.I.P.S.ed rules competition will be organised with each team made up of one member from each discipline. Each of the competing teams and their respective team managers from the 2008 F.I.P.S.ed World Freshwater Angling Championships will all be in attendance including:- Drennan Team England

  • HS Works Carp Team
  • Drennan U22 Team England
  • Sensas U18 Team England
  • Subfish Team England Ladies
  • England Team for Anglers with Disabilities
  • England Veterans Team
Following the start of the match, the Angling Trust will organise a press conference, to meet and discuss the prospects and requirements for the 2009 international calendar with team managers, sponsors and the Angling Trusts international committee.The team managers in attendance will include Tom Pickering, Mark Downes, Steve Sanders, Joe Roberts, Mitch Smith and Dick Clegg.The main objective of the day will be to raise additional funds for the teams that currently don’t have sponsorship deals in place for the 2009 World Championships. Full details of fund raising activities are still to be confirmed and will be announced shortly.

Dick Clegg, Angling Trust International Events Director comments: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the biggest stars in angling and watch them in action with spectators welcome on the day. The event will play a vital role in the fund raising activities for the England team for Anglers with Disabilities and also the England Veterans team who as yet have not secured sponsorship for the 2009 season. I would urge all anglers who would like to show their support for these teams to visit Barston Lakes and get involved.”
