The Angling Trust, along with Thames Anglers Conservancy (TAC), are calling on all anglers and angling clubs in London and the South-East to speak out in favour of plans to clean up the tidal Thames through the construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel. An application to build the tunnel has finally been submitted and the public have until May 28th to register as 'interested parties' - this the only way that the Planning Inspectorate can now hear views and opinions.…
The first qualifier match of this year’s Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Stillwater Championship was fished at Boddington Reservoir using pegs 50 to 99 on Sunday 12th May 2013. After what had been a really warm spell of weather conditions this changed dramatically with a cold wind blowing down the reservoir and rain later in the match. Unfortunately this had the effect of driving the carp out into deep water and it required casts of 60 to 70…
Early morning rain soon cleared to leave a bight windy day for the 130 anglers in this latest Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Monk Lakes on Wednesday 8th May 2013. Pegged over the four match lakes, plus Bridges Lake, the word on the morning was that not very many wanted to draw Bridges. Chertsy angler Perry Stone a bait company owner was quite happy with his draw at peg B5 on Bridges to record a winning weight of 207 lbs 14…

RiverFest 2013 is the brainchild of river expert Dave Harrell who has been working closely with the Angling Trust to put the competition in place.  Twenty qualifiers of 60 anglers on various river venues around the country will see three anglers from each match qualify for a…
Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery in Warwick, the host to the sixth Fish 'O' Mania qualifier had recently been fishing well with weights of over 150 lbs being needed to win many of the open matches. Many thought it would be difficult on Saturday 27th April 2013, due to the change in the weather conditions, with hail, sleet and a two hour torrential downpour of very cold rain the day prior, and going from a balmy 2 degrees on arrival, and…
The anglers fishing the fifth Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier on Wednesday 24th April 2013 were treated to an unseasonal day in the sun, and near perfect conditions for fishing. The fish at Gold Valley Lakes, Aldershot, Hampshire did not disappoint with over 100 lb required to make the top five. The battle of the day was fished out on adjacent pegs 115 and 116 on Syndicate Lake and Fish ‘O’ Mania bridesmaid Grant Albutt (Daiwa Dorking), got off to a…
13 young anglers participating in the Angling Trust Talent Pathway programme have been invited to the Sensas Team England under 18 trials to be held on the Gloucester canal on Sunday 28th April 2013. 26 anglers from all over the country met at Packington Somers on 6th April to compete on Molands Mere in a match fished to FIPSed International rules. With the rise in temperatures during the preceding week the expectations for a really good match at the third Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier held on Wednesday 17th April were high at the draw. Unfortunately the wind strengthened during the day and at times was positively frightening. This severely restricted tactics, and as a result many anglers were simply unable to get the best out of their pegs. Several pole sections became casualties of the ferocious gusts at Makins Fishery, Nuneaton.…
A victorious finish for the England Feeder teams and first class performance from Alex Bones for his individual win gave England a clean sweep of medals in the third Van Den Eyde Matrix International Feeder Fishing Challenge, held on the Ghent-Terneuzen canal in Holland on 6th/7th April 2013 with 25 teams from different parts of Europe taking part, including the reigning World Champion team Holland. The England Feeder teams proved tough going for the other teams taking part, with England…
The Angling Trust is highlighting two reports from Europe that show that numbers of cormorants across Europe are their highest for 150 years. The studies further strengthen the case for action to be taken to protect fish stocks in the UK from unsustainable predation by cormorants. The first report was commissioned by the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee from Professor Ian Cowx of Hull University's acclaimed Fisheries Institute and the other is the European Commission's clarification on derogation under the Birds…
Following complaints from anglers angered by the re-emergence of a website offering rod licence renewals which charges an additional £11 for ‘processing services’ the Angling Trust is warning anglers not to pay a penny more than they need and is encouraging everyone to use the completely free service provided by the Environment Agency and the Post Office. Buried away in the small print at www.rodlicence.net are details of the extra charges, none of which is necessary. “Rodlicence.net offers you third…
The Angling Trust is playing its part in the campaign against illegal close season fishing with a new publicity blitz aimed at making sure that all anglers are aware of the rules. To help combat this growing problem and support its member clubs and fisheries the Angling Trust has produced a simple but effective new poster that spells out the rules in five different languages. Clubs just need to download the poster from the Trust's website, print and laminate it,…
