The Angling Trust RiverFest qualifier on the River Severn at Bridgnorth on Saturday 20th September proved a tough test for all competitors, and what the competitors needed was just a touch of extra water and bit of colour, nevertheless the match had to produce for the three qualifiers going through to the final. The Annual and now very long running Angling Trust Masters Championship (previously the ACA Masters) was held on Saturday 30th August 2014 at Mallory Park Fisheries Leicestershire. 14 teams of six anglers lined the banks of The Glebe and the Foundation Lake. Newent Community School from Newent, Gloucestershire won the Angling Trust Schools National Championship at Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery, Retford on 16th July 2014 with 72 points. The third Angling Trust RiverFest qualifier, held on the River Severn at Lower Lode on Saturday 5th July saw Shakespeare Superteam member Paul Bick become the first angler to qualify for the final in successive seasons. Paul easily won B section at Peg 33 with 15-5-0, made up of three decent bream, four skimmers and a few perch to groundbait feeder with maggot and worm hookbaits. The Angling Trust has criticised a press release issued yesterday by the Environment Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee for failing to represent accurately the contents of its report on last winter’s floods. The EFRA press release and headlines today highlighted the need for more environmentally-damaging dredging of rivers and streams.
