Angling and fishery organisations have today welcomed an announcement from the Natural Environment Minister Richard Benyon that plans are being drawn up to remove products containing the dangerous insecticide Chlorpyrifos from domestic sale. The Angling Trust has secured an important breakthrough in the war against poachers and fish thieves. Now all 132,000 police officers in England and Wales will have web access to fisheries enforcement guidance and the law on POLKA - the national Police On-Line Knowledge Area. During May Environment Agency Fisheries Enforcement Officers have continued patrolling the river banks and responding to reports of out of season fishing. Two officers in Northumbria dealt with 26 close season and 11 licence offences in one day alone. Patrols across England also detected other offences, such as unlicensed fishing, unauthorised crayfish traps and prohibited baits.
