On Tuesday 10th May, Angling Trust and Fish Legal staff from the Leominster office collected 11 bags of rubbish from 2 miles of the River Lugg in Leominster, as part of a project organised by the Lugg and Arrow Fisheries Association to spring clean 100 miles of this Herefordshire river, which joins the River Wye at Luggsmouth. The Angling Development Board (ADB) has launched three new pilot angling development programmes to prepare youngsters for taking part in county and regional competitions and training programmes. The Environment Agency has issued an invitation for expressions of interest to develop hydropower on a further three of its weirs on the Thames: at Marlow, Boulters and Boveney despite a promise from the Regional Director in 2008 that no other Thames weirpools would be developed for hydropower until the first, at Romney, had been fully evaluated for its environmental impact. British Waterways has promised to stop killing pike on the canals it controls in the Midlands. It comes amid revelations more than 100 fish were killed, after fears that one waterway had been illegally stocked with pike sent officials into a panic.
