There were some surprises in the results this year for all the teams taking part in the European Coarse Angling Championships in Opole, Poland from 25th – 26th June 2011. The Cadets category of the Angling Trust Cadets, Juniors & Intermediates National Championship on Saturday 2nd July 2011 saw four times previous winners, Smartbait Leeds coming back from last year’s second place position to take the Championship title back for 2011 with 13 points (47.87 kg). Agreement has been reached in principle for The Waterways Trust to merge its operations with the planned new waterways charity (NWC) when it is established in England & Wales next year. The Angling Trust regrets to announce that one of its members has had his membership terminated and been banned from fishing any Angling Trust matches for five years because of his aggressive, rude and potentially criminal harassment on the telephone of two members of staff in the competitions department over issues surrounding the arrangements for matches. Disabled anglers can soon go fishing on the Norfolk Broads with the launch of the first wheelie boat early in the new fishing season. The boat has a roll-on, roll-off bow ramp and level deck, providing disabled people, and wheelchair users in particular, with hassle-free and independent access to angling on the water and will be available from 27th June 2011. Anglers living in and around Exeter have somewhere new to enjoy their sport - Harper's Lakes near the city's historic canal. Environment Agency fisheries officers have discovered the first salmon in the River Leven in more than 150 years. The River Leven flows through North Yorkshire, and is a tributary to the River Tees at Yarm. Until 2007 it was not possible for salmon to spawn in the River Leven because of an impassable weir which was built during the industrial revolution.
