Both Managers feel that to compete at the highest level, this team is the best in the world. This 6th Qualifier in the 2010 series failed to live up to the expected weights that this venue is famous for, mainly due to very heavy overnight rain and a clear bright sunlit day with little or no breeze to put a ripple on the water. Prior to the match, fish could be seen swirling everywhere, especially on Match Lake in the early and late pegs, with lots of big Carp cruising around on the surface of Specimen Lake, but…
All three of the main Westminster political parties have now signed the Angling Trust’s Angling Manifesto. The document sets out a detailed agenda for the next Parliament to protect and improve angling and fisheries and to acknowledge the economic, environmental and social benefits that the country’s most popular pursuit offers to the British people. Signed copies of the Manifesto have been received at the Angling Trust offices from Richard Benyon (Conservative), Huw Irranca-Davies (Labour) and Andrew George (Liberal Democrat). The…
Britain's top predator club has called for urgent talks with the Birmingham Anglers Association, after it announced a ban on livebaiting without warning. Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain members in the Midlands who belong to the BAA say they were not consulted over the rule change, which comes as national fishery by-laws are set to come into force giving the green light to the method. Environment Agency chiefs agreed predator anglers across England and Wales should be allowed to…
It was back to ‘winter mode’ for the third qualifying round of the XVII Fish ‘O’ Mania at Dynamite Baits Makins Fishery, Wolvey, Warwickshire. A sharp overnight frost and a cooler day than of late made it difficult to tempt bites in areas; the lowest ten peg winning section was 26-8-0 which was quite acceptable given the tough conditions. The third name to be added to the eventual sixteen targeting the £25,000 first prize in the Fish ‘O’ Mania final…
Fish Legal, the legal arm of the Angling Trust, has reacted with dismay to the news that six water companies have won their appeal against the decision of Environment Agency (EA) to provide proper regulation for the thousands of unregulated Combined Sewage Overflows (CSOs) in England and Wales. Over twenty years ago, in 1989, at the time of water privatisation, the water companies were granted temporary consents for many thousands of discharges carrying storm sewage into English and Welsh rivers.…
Local Somerton estate agent manager Ray Hayward (Carps AC/Team Viaduct) undoubtedly had the shortest journey of all the 130-entry in the first of the sixteen Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifiers. Ray’s house virtually overlooks his favourite fishery at Viaduct and his experience showed as he went on to win the event. With the weather rapidly warming up and plenty of carp visible on the lakes the talk was for a draw on the prolific Campbells Lake. After several weeks of cold…
Following the recently-held youth trails, the Joint Youth International Team Managers of the U18s & U22s, Steve Sanders and Mark Downes are pleased to announce the teams who will be representing Angling Trust this year. The two trials were a huge success with the young anglers bagging between 12lb and 35lb in each of the trials. Both trials were 2.5hrs long and bloodworm and joker were the predominant baits. This year, the teams travel to Italy along the Canal Bianco…

Successful applicants will represent Team England in this year’s World Championships taking place on the 7th & 8th August in France for Anglers with Disabilities, and in Belgium on the 10th & 11th July 2010 for the Veterans. England Team Manager Joe Roberts has arranged for two separate trials to take place to identify anglers of international calibre who are experienced…
Entries are now being taken for the England Youth Flyfishing Association National Championships to be fished at Grafham Water on 4 July and open to everyone aged 12 to 17. The competition is fished to International Loch-style rules and the top 10 weights will form the national squad for next year’s International Youth Championships in Scotland. The EYFA wants to raise its profile this year and attract more young fly-fishers into the competition scene, new chairman Chris McLeod explains, ‘’We…

Also present at the hand over were the Chair and Vice Chair of the All Party Angling Group, Martin Salter (Labour, Reading West)…
Former Daiwa Gordon League grouped matchman, Steve Seaborn of Ross-on-Wye is the second angler to qualify for the Fish ‘O’ Mania XVII Grand Final at Stapeley Cudmore Fisheries, North Staffordshire on Saturday 17th July after his win at Tunnel Barn Farm in Warwickshire at the weekend. Following a touch of overnight frost the sell-out 130 entry enjoyed the warmest day of the year so far as the sun shone fiercely. After months of donning several layers of winter clothing it…

The comprehensive strategy includes calls for the government and its agencies to: • Protect fish stocks from commercial overfishing by reforming the Common Fisheries Policy and enforcing existing legislation; • Implement the Water Framework Directive to address diffuse pollution, low river flows and habitat damage; • Allow greater controls of cormorants by anglers suffering excessive fish…
