The Angling Trust will be hosting the 2nd Veterans World Championship 2009 at Furzton Lake, Milton Keynes from 11th – 12th July 2009. The Angling Trust is delighted to announce that Daiwa Sports have confirmed they will be sponsoring the Angling Trust Schools National Championships in 2009. The event is a team competition with five anglers in each team. This year we have 30 teams taking part a total of 150 youngsters fishing for £4,000 of equipment. Fish Legal has expressed surprise at what it sees to be the Environment Agency’s apparent lack of concern at the severe and potentially toxic algal blooms in Llyn Padarn, home to one of the rarest fish species in Wales, the arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus). The Angling Trust today called for long overdue plans to be put in place to deal with urban run-off after two separate pollution events at the weekend killed thousands of fish, including barbel, chub, dace, roach, trout, bream and perch on tributaries of the River Trent. The Ladies National Angling Championship took place on Sat 13th June at Baden Hall, Staffordshire. Online match anglers raised a fantastic £2240 in the sixth running of this annual two-day event in which Roy Marlow gives up the peg fee at his fishery to allow money to be raised for angling causes. The Angling Trust has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Drywall Ceilings and Partitions Ltd (DCP Ltd) to sponsor the National Championship for Anglers with Disabilities. Angling goes from strength to strength in England and Wales, despite the recession. The tackle trade is reporting a good spring and licence sales are soaring. Sales of rod licences increased steadily after 2000 to record levels last year and 2009 looks like another record breaker. The Wildlife Management Group met recently to exchange information and to seek opportunities to resolve issues regarding otters and freshwater fisheries. The meeting was attended by experts from the Angling Trust, Natural England, the Environment Agency, the Angling Trades Association and others. The date for completed entries for the Angling Trust Cadets, Juniors & Intermediates Coarse Angling National Championship, held at Cudmore Fishery on July 4th, has been extended to Friday 19th June 2009. Pete Goodwin, a Chemical Plant operator from Cheddleton in Staffs, was the winner of the latest Fish-O-Mania qualifiers at Heronbrook fishery.
