The Angling Trust’s Anglers with Disabilities England Team took part in the 11th Freshwater World Championships at Ponte De Sor, Portugal on 8th-9th August 2009. Roger Holmes became the Angling Trust Veterans National Champion on Wednesday 5th August at Makins Fishery at Wolvey Warwickshire with an exceptional winning weight of 52.350kg fishing Phase 1, Lake 2 on peg A14. The Angling Trust has announced a number of cuts to its central operations in Nottingham and Leominster. Despite widespread publicity and distribution of more than half a million membership leaflets, the level of recruitment has to date, fallen below expectations. Canal anglers and angling clubs have reacted furiously to news that British Waterways (BW) is to cut its fisheries staff by 50% as part of its restructuring. The national body plans to reduce the number of specialist fishery positions from three to two and administrative support staff from three to one. The 2nd Veterans World Angling Championship took place 11th - 12th July at Furzton Lake, Milton Keynes. This year for the first time the Angling Trust hosted the event, with seven teams of four anglers per team taking part. After three days of practising the England team were mainly catching roach with bloodworm and joker attack. This research aims to collect vital evidence about the influence that angling has on participants, young people and the communities in which angling takes place.
