The Angling Trust has recently confirmed the appointment of six new Regional Officers to join the two already in place. Their remit will be to promote and develop angling across the country. Officials from the Angling Trust and the European Anglers’ Alliance met today with Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg at the European Commission in Brussels to discuss the review of the Common Fisheries Policy and to raise concerns about the proposed regulation of Europe’s 10 million recreational sea anglers. The Angling Trust and Fish Legal cautiously welcomed today’s announcement from the Environment Agency that, 20 years after privatisation, over 4,000 unregulated sewage overflows are finally to be monitored and policed. Anglers have led calls for several years for these discharges to be regulated, after several of them caused pollutions which caused major fish kills, but the polluters could not be prosecuted by the Environment Agency.
