Staffordshire based chef, Edward Warren, won the latest Fish-O-Mania qualifier this weekend. Fishing the pellet feeder on Hay pool he put 117lbs 2ozs on the scales and secured his place in the final. Edward, from Penkridge, caught carp to 10lbs steadily throughout the day. Before the draw most anglers were apprehensive about how the venue would perform as the fish appeared to be very close to spawning. Working with Charing and District Angling Club, the Environment Agency has made significant improvements to Colt Pond near Bethesden. As part of a major fishery restoration initiative in the Kent and East Sussex area, Colt Pond has been de-silted and restored. There have been many other welcome improvements, too, such as all-ability access and angling platforms, marginal planting, an angling cabin and wildlife education classes. Officials from the Angling Trust and the European Anglers’ Alliance met today with Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg at the European Commission in Brussels to discuss the review of the Common Fisheries Policy and to raise concerns about the proposed regulation of Europe’s 10 million recreational sea anglers. The Angling Trust and Fish Legal cautiously welcomed today’s announcement from the Environment Agency that, 20 years after privatisation, over 4,000 unregulated sewage overflows are finally to be monitored and policed.
