Yet more fisheries are set to benefit as the Angling Trust announces today (8th June) that an additional £50,000 is up for grabs later this summer as part of the hugely successful 'Fishery Improvement Fund'. The funding comes from the Environment Agency's rod licence sales. Dozens of perch, roach and bream were released into the Rochdale Canal in Manchester city centre today (Friday 24th April) to mark the start of a new fishing agreement between the Canal & River Trust and the world’s oldest angling club, the Salford Friendly Anglers Society. The new Fishery Improvement Fund, administered by the Angling Trust and funded with rod licence income from the Environment Agency, has made funding awards to 3 fisheries, 13 clubs and 1 angling project totalling £65,000 to improve facilities for angling throughout England. Throughout the coarse close season, the Voluntary Bailiff Service (VBS), Environment Agency (EA) and various police forces throughout South East England will again be working in partnership to target illegal fishing on rivers in SE England during Operation CLAMP DOWN 3.
