Eastleigh MP Mims Davies accepted an invitation from the Hampshire-based organisation 'For Life Experiences' (FLE) to visit a summer holiday fishing project for local youngsters as part of Eastleigh Borough Council's Park Sport Programme. She went to the Lakeside Country Park accompanied by Martin Salter, National Campaigns Manager for the Angling Trust, and FLE director Graham Mabey. The Angling Trust is the national representative body for all forms of recreational fishing and delivers many angling participation programmes across the country.…
The Angling Trust has published the results of research which provides valuable insight into why people go fishing and what can be done to get more non-anglers and their families to take part in this wonderful outdoors activity. The report, commissioned from research company Substance, will help shape the Angling Trust's strategy to boost fishing over the next few years. England's representative body for angling has used the study to design angling participation projects this year and it will play…
The Angling Trust and other members of the European Anglers Alliance (EAA) and European fishing tackle trade met with Karmenu Vella, the EU Commissioner for the Environment and Fisheries, to highlight the huge social, environmental and economic benefits recreational angling brings to the EU. The meeting in Brussels, which was arranged before the UK voted to leave the European Union, was attended by Mark Owen, the Angling Trust’s Head of Freshwater and David Mitchell, the Angling Trust’s Head of Marine…
A low and clear River Swale proved to be a tough nut to crack for many of the competitors in the second Angling Trust RiverFest qualifier held on Saturday 25th June. Big chub accounted for all the top weights and leading the way was Goole angler Mark Turner, on his first visit to the venue with 43-0-0 from peg 30 in B Zone. Mark started off by landing two decent chub on legered breadflake before switching to a 6No4 stick…
This year the fabulous Partridge Lakes complex in Cheshire played host to the Angling Trust Cadets and Junior Angling Championships on Saturday 25th June 2016. Sadly the numbers of teams taking part was very disappointing. Whilst the Cadets event again saw 4 teams fishing, the Junior Championship had only 9 teams, which was 5 teams down on 2015, and eventually the Intermediates event, which had only 2 teams registered was ultimately cancelled when both opted not to fish. Cadets The…
The Angling Trust Ladies National Championship was contested by 43 anglers fishing Front and Back Deans lakes at Woodlands View Fishery near Worcester on Saturday 4th June 2016. The fishing proved difficult on a hot, bright windless day, and most of the better weights came from the Back Deans section. For the winner Kayleigh Smith (Matrix, Bag em baits) this proved a very poignant occasion.  Last year Kayleigh’s mum tragically died whilst this match was being fished at Lakeview.  So…
The Angling Trust has launched an exciting new social media competition to encourage anglers to get back on the banks and inspire newcomers to take up the sport. The Angling Trust Video Battle (ATVB) – run in conjunction with Fishinginfo.co.uk – is calling for anglers to get creative by shooting and editing their own short fishing video to compete with other battlers to win fabulous tackle prizes worth hundreds of pounds. All that competitors have to do is shoot a…
The Angling Trust has welcomed the commitment from the Environment Agency (EA) to deliver an ambitious 5-Point Approach to halt the dramatic decline of salmon stocks in England. Despite funding cuts from government, the Agency has committed additional funding to support this extensive programme of work over an 18-month period. The approach aims to address five key issues affecting salmon stocks: improving marine survival, which has decreased by almost 50% in 20 years; reducing the impact of both commercial and…

130 competitors gathered at the picturesque Hayfield Lakes, Doncaster on Saturday 12th March 2016 for the third Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier on a cool misty morning. The fishery had recovered well after the recent heavy rains and although there was a cool south easterly breeze blowing the weather looked set fair. Recent 200 lb weights on this venue added to the expectation of a good days fishing. As the match got under way, reality soon dawned that that the cool…
The 150 competitors arriving for the first Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier of 2016 were greeted by scattered snow showers and a biting North Easterly wind at Tunnel Barn Farm in Shrewley, Warwickshire on Saturday 5th March. For many, this resulted in a hard day's fishing. However, as temperatures rose and with the wind dropping a little, alongside some sunshine going into the last hour of the match, the venue's shoals of carp and F1s fed remarkably well. It was Jamie…
The Angling Trust are asking for ladies who are interested in representing England in this years 23rd FIPSed Ladies World Championships to submit a CV before the end of March. The 2016 event is scheduled for the 28th/29th August and is likely to take place in Spain, although the venue is not yet confirmed, it could be at Merida. England Ladies Manager Dave Brooks is looking for anglers who are capable of fishing to World Championship rules and therefore the…
The Angling Trust says it is looking forward to a further crackdown on fisheries-related crime, which will help to protect fish across North East England. Representatives of four police forces – Northumbria, Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire – and senior fisheries officers from the Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water, the Tyne Rivers Trust, the Wear Rivers Trust and the Angling Trust have agreed to work together to help tackle the problem. It follows a meeting in Newcastle upon Tyne co-ordinated by…

World Championships 2016, Plovdiv, Bulgaria, 18/19th September: The team has previously fished this venue and secured a silver medal. At present, nobody knows the species they will be fishing for, as in the winter the venue is sometimes drained and re-stocked. The venue is a 2,000m rowing course and with up to 40 teams competing…
